La voix de Sugar Ray Norcia est une des plus belles du blues actuel. Avec son jeu d’harmonica puissant et raffiné, il est l’un des bluesmen les plus respectés aujourd’hui. La première mouture des Bluetones, au sein de laquelle officiait Ronnie Earl à la guitare, a vu le jour en 1978 et accompagna de nombreux musiciens prestigieux, comme Big Joe Turner, Jimmy Rogers, Roosevelt Sykes et Big Walter Horton. Ce dernier sera d'ailleurs l’influence majeure de Sugar Ray à l’harmonica. A partir de 1991, Sugar Ray fut de nombreuses années le front man de Roomful of Blues avant de réunir à nouveau ses Bluetones en 2001 et recruter en 2003 le sensationnel « Monster » Mike Welch. Mike n’a que 28 ans mais compte déjà quinze années de carrière professionnelle. A 14 ans il jouait déjà avec Junior Wells, James Cotton, Hubert Sumlin, Johnny Copeland et le Blues Brothers Band (c’est Dan Aykroyd, qui lui a donné son surnom de “Monster Mike.”).

Sugar Ray Norcia speelde al in 1978 in een eerste editie van The Bluetones met onder meer bassist 'Mudcat' Ward, die ook nog altijd deel uitmaakt van the Bluetones. Na een tussentijdse uitstap bij Roomful of Blues, waarmee hij verschillende albums opnam, keerde Sugar Ray tien jaar geleden weer terug naar de basis bij zijn Bluetones : de harmonicablues. Gitaarwonder Mike Welch speelt als supertalent al meer dan tien jaar in de internationale bluesscène. In die Amerikaanse superband smelten zijn gitaar met de harmonica en karakteristieke stem van Sugar Ray samen tot een onmiskenbare eigen sound. Behalve 'oudgediende' bassist Michel Ward maaken ook drummer Neil Gouvin en keyboardist Anthony Geraci deel uit van deze wereldband. Een unieke kans om ze te zien en horen!

Sugar Ray Norcia has been playing music professionally since the early 1970's. In 1979 he joined forces with guitarist Ronnie Earl and was the featured singer, harmonica player and songwriter on numerous Ronnie Earl recordings. Together they established the formidable band Sugar Ray & The Bluetones. In the early days of his career it was not unusual to find Ray backing up blues greats such as Otis Rush, Roosevelt Sykes, J.B. Hutto, Joe Turner and perhaps his greatest inspiration Big Walter Horton. Sugar Ray has consistently held company with world-class musicians and is known for his sincere, genuine personality and deeply rooted love of music. In 1991, Sugar Ray joined the world renowned Roomful of Blues and performed over 200 dates a year worldwide. With Ray as front man, Roomful was nominated for countless awards and also recorded four critically acclaimed albums all appearing on the Billboard Blues Charts. In 2001 Sugar's career came full circle when he reunited with the Bluetones. In 2003 they recruited young guitar sensation Monster Mike Welch. Welch got this name from actor/comedian/Blues Brother Dan Aykroyd.
